20 Tips to Help De-Escalate Interactions With Anxious or Defiant Students

Schools all across the country are engaged in this same conversation. Our students are returning back to school after months of being home. They are relearning how to be a student all over again! This learning curve has resulted in some challenges. Students are relearning how to manage sensory overload and some are relearning how to apply coping strategies in moments of stress (as compared to reacting on impulse).

Personally, I always like to keep in mind – “All behavior is communication.” It’s our job to figure out what our students are communicating.
